Training Opportunities

The Benton Franklin Dispute Resolution Center offers 40 Hour Basic Mediation Training for volunteers only. The class is specifically to train and certify people who are interested in being Certified Mediators for the BFDRC or any of the other 19 DRC's in the state of Washington. All of our mediators are volunteers, and serve on a pro bono basis. People who are interested in a career as a mediator in private practice are encouraged to check the colleges and universities for alternative dispute resolution programs, or to seek certification through the Washington Mediation Association.

We offer our 20 Hour Family Law Mediation training as an advanced course for DRC mediators. It is required in order to do family mediations at the center.

New this fall, we are offering Conflict Management Training for Professionals. This training is for company owners, bosses, managers, supervisors, work group coordinators, team leaders, etc. to learn very practical skills to deal with and defuse conflict in the workplace. This is a two day training (16 hours) and will be offered at the DRC offices twice a year. Dates and registration information will be posted here soon.

The above training is also offered to companies, businesses, and organizations as an in house training for your employees. We offer one day and two day training modules designed to be taught at your place of employment to help your employees at all levels improve their communication and conflict resolution skills. Studies have shown that the number one reason for turnover in the workplace in the United States is conflict between co-workers, or between employees and management. Family Law (Advanced) Mediation - We are currently revamping our Advanced Mediation Training Manual, and anticipate offering the training sometime in the Fall of 2010. The dates of the training will be posted here. Cost is $225.00.
